Quote Analysis Task – Act 2 Scene 3

“….they stumble that run fast.”

I think the quote “….they stumble that run fast” translates to people that do things too quickly and rush things will stumble, fall or fail. For example, you may be given 3 tasks to do in math’s, but if you do them too quickly you can make careless mistakes like putting numbers in the wrong place, therefore, you ended up getting all three wrong because of your carelessness and the fact that you rushed them without thinking. To then apply this to Romeo and Juliet’s current plan is the fact that they both knew each other actually existed one day ago, and now they are planning their marriage. The quote is used to reinforce the sudden urge of Romeo and Juliet wanting to wed so quickly after just meeting each other, and how ‘impulse decision’ marrying may end in a poor or negative result. The result’s outcome can be poor or negative because their decision wasn’t thought out of thoroughly and planned in an appropriate manner. Generally, weddings have to be planned and prepared for and aren’t an event that can be considered an ‘on the spot decision’. A wedding should hold extreme value for a couple’s lives and an event that will also forever change their lives too. However, the outcome also links back to the fate of Romeo and Juliet. The ending of the play is a tragedy and unfortunate, in which both of those words fall into the same category of pessimism as poor and negative. In conclusion, this quote indicates to us how wedding so quickly can result in unfortunate consequences.
